 Volunteer Opportunities

Sarasota Military Academy is in need of volunteers in a variety of different areas! If you, or someone you know, are interested in volunteering at Sarasota Military Academy, we have a place for you. No experience is necessary for many areas…just a willingness to help our students and staff continue “ONWARD & UPWARD”.

THE FIRST THING YOU MUST DO IS REGISTER ON-LINE AS A VOLUNTEER.

This can be done at any district school, or at the Sarasota County School Board (at The Landings).

            You will need to have your Social Security Number available at that time. Upon registering, an F.D.L.E. (Florida Department of Law Enforcement) screening will be performed and may take several weeks for the results. Once you are approved, you may begin volunteering at SMA.

            If you have registered online as a volunteer in past years, you will still need to “reactivate”, at any of the locations listed above.

THE SECOND THING YOU MUST DO IS TO BE SURE YOU ARE SIGNED UP TO RECEIVE SMA’S “ENEWS”.

            Go to www.sarasotamilitaryacademy.com, and click on the button near the top of the page that says “VOLUNTEERS”.

            There you will find information about volunteer opportunities on campus on an on-going basis (such as media center, office help, and tutoring).

            There you will also find a link to sign up for our weekly “E-NEWS” newsletter. IT IS VITAL THAT YOU SIGN UP FOR ENEWS. This is where all volunteer opportunities are posted, such as Veteran’s Day, Military Ball and Rifle Team. ENEWS is regularly used as a “Call to Volunteer” and nary a week goes by without some opportunity listed.

THE THIRD THING YOU MUST DO IS SIGN THE BOTTOM OF THIS FORM AND ASK YOUR CADET TO RETURN ONLY THE BOTTOM PORTION.

                I understand that I am offering my services to the Sarasota County School District without compensation. I understand that any misinterpretation, omission, or incorrect statement of facts called for in the online application is cause for immediate dismissal of me as a volunteer. I agree, as a volunteer, to abide by all rules, regulations, policies and laws, either published, or in effect by usage,  of the State of Florida as may be required by Florida Statutes, Florida Department of Education, and the School Board of Sarasota County.

                I understand that I must register online at any Sarasota County District School or at the Sarasota County School Board (at The Landings) and be approved by the F.D.L.E. before I can begin my volunteer service at school. If I have registered in past years, I understand that I still need to “reactivate” for the 2009-2010 school year.

                I understand that volunteering is extremely important at Sarasota Military Academy, and that SMA asks each parent/guardian to donate a minimum of 15 volunteer hours for two parent homes, and 10 hours for single parent homes throughout the school year.
