We all want to keep our cadets safe during this prom and graduation season.  Major Wasserman and a group of Florida Highway Patrol officers organized a full day of interactive driving exercises at SMA on 4/29/10 to show cadets EXACTLY how human reflexes and reaction time are affected by the use of alcohol and drugs.  Participants drove golf carts through an obstacle course while wearing "fatal vision" goggles, which approximate the conditions of driving while under the influence.  Cadets also walked through several field sobriety tests while wearing these goggles.  These exercises weren't restricted to cadets only, though: Colonel Kennedy, Colonel Cork, Major Lee, Lt. Colonel Hall and Lt. Colonel Kopacz also participated -- so far Colonels Cork and Kennedy hold the "safe driver record" for SMA!   The state troopers also brought in a roll-over simulator with two crash dummies, to show students what happens to the human body after a roll-over crash.  A HUGE thank you goes out to Colonel Mike Ryan who helped organize the event, and who also donated the use of his beautiful red golf cart.  Thank you also to Major McClaugherty who graciously volunteered to photograph this event, and to Colonel Kennedy who made room for this event on SMA's already crowded spring schedule!
