Viewing Permission Letter

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Life in the 21st century demands our students become literate in many areas aside from the traditional 3 R’s (reading, writing, and ‘rithmetic).  So I will be showing a variety of films this term, ranging from straight up documentaries to feature films that deal with specific areas of our curriculum.  These films form an integral part of my teaching process, and are almost always accompanied by a viewing guide or film analysis worksheet.

In order to meet the state’s curricular goals, I will be showing films ranging in level from NR (not rated, usually reserved for documentary films) to films rated “R” (usually because of some profane language and/or violence).    I do not always show films in their entirety – I often show snippets of films that cover just what I feel is necessary.  All films shown are accompanied by intensive, guided class discussions.

I am always on the lookout for great films to add to my curriculum, so my video list is very much a work in progress.  I will post this list on my website twice during the school year, for your perusal.

I do not show any film for purely entertainment purposes.  Every film I show has been carefully selected to meet specific curricular needs.

If you do NOT wish your student to view films with the following ratings, please fill out the bottom portion of this letter and have your student return it to me.

Thank you!
