Energize the Brain
In this New Year we are fortunate to have some great group of returning and new teachers. Major Thacker is leading our efforts in Marine Biology complemented by our own wonderful teacher Lieutenant Commander Hewins teaching Biology and Anatomy and Physiology. We are lucky to have Captain Lee as our new teacher doing a great job teaching Chemistry and Biology. Captain Lee comes to us with an extensive background in his subject matter and with solid teaching experience. In addition we have added a new teacher for Integrated Science, Captain Creneti. Captain Creneti comes to us with extensive teaching and coaching experience. Major Peter is once again teaching an honors Integrated Science course as well as Physics and Astronomy. In the spring a new series of AP Physics courses both B and C will be offered.
Science Fair
This year we will again hold an in house SMA science fair. This in house competition will be held in December. Last year we won various county wide prizes and with this year’s excellent teachers and students we should once again bring home some awards.
SABRE
The SABRE program, an independent research program for those students in Honors Science and Math will once again compete in various regional state competitions. The ROV competition gives these students the opportunity to build their own remotely controlled vehicle. Major Peter will be leading this program again starting this spring
Tutoring Help
Room 34 (Major Peter’s room) is open for help every day after school for those that need help in the sciences. This service is free of charge and we expect all students that are struggling to take advantage of it.
