SMA SAILING TEAM
The Sailing Team is a year round Varsity Sport at SMA
The Sailing Team trains at the Sarasota Sailing Squad on City Island
SMA Sailing Team are members of the Sarasota Youth Sailing Program
SAILING SCHEDULE
· Sailing team practices twice a week; one week day after school and on Saturdays
· Members sail the 420… a two person boat
EQUIPMENT
There are equipment requirements for participating on the SMA Sailing Team. Cadets are required to have the following:
· Life preserver with a whistle attached
· Water proof spray jacket and pants (winter gear)
· Water proof boots
· Change of clothes and towel
FEES

Sailing instruction and participation fee is $500 per year or $275 each semester. Payments can be made on a monthly basis. Checks are made payable to SMA Sailing Team. Cadets will only be eligible to participate if their fee is paid. Limited scholarship aid is available; please see Capt. Peter.

There is an additional fee for chartering the 420 boat. This fee is $125 per semester.
PERMISSION SLIP
All cadets are required to have a parent permission slip signed and on file in order to participate on the SMA Sailing Team. Parents need to certify that their cadet can swim.
REGATTAS
The SMA sailing team participates in a variety of competitive sailing regattas.
· Throughout the year, the Sarasota Sailing Squadron sponsors regattas at their facility. There is a nominal regatta entry fee.
· As youth sailors, the SMA team can travel to 420 Regattas sponsored at other FL sailing centers. Fees range from $50 – 80 per regatta.
· SMA also participates in the South Atlantic Interscholastic Sailing Association. Participation in the SAISA regattas requires out of state travel to other sailing centers. Additional fees are required.
