Dear SMA Soccer Players, Parents, Coaches, Administrators, and Supporters:

Thank you to everyone who attended the first annual SMA soccer banquet at 15 South Restaurant on St. Armands Circle. We started the banquet with positive remarks from Headmaster Kennedy about our soccer season. Headmaster Kennedy believes there is no reason why we can't compete at a very high level in FHSAA high school soccer. I agree, since the first day of tryouts I realized that we have a lot of potential to win and we will bring a district and state championship to SMA in soccer one day!

We next gave out the Varsity letters to the boys and girls team of players in attendance. As coaches we congratulated each and every player for not giving up and making it through the tough soccer season, having made it through all the practices and games. It truly is a team effort. We closed our awards banquet with pizza and refreshments and ended a great first season for our soccer program.

Onward,

Fredrik Sandstrom

To all SMA Soccer players, parents, administrators, coaches, and fans:

We had an excellent and well played game Friday night between the boys SMA soccer team and Booker High School. The game ended up being a tie 3-3. Leonardo Cisneros, Fabio Ormaechea, and Stephen Payne all scored. Check out the Sarasota Herald Tribune Newspaper after every game. Thank you to everyone that came and supported the team. We could really sense the crowd getting into the game and it made a big difference!

Here is a list of important information to consider for the following week and the rest of the season:

A van is taking the boys soccer team to Venice High school at 3pm Monday. We recommend players ride up with the team leaving from SMA. The van can only seat 7 so we need carpooling transportion for the rest of the team. You need to show up to the field at least 1 hour before gametime so at 4:30pm on Monday if you are not riding up with the Van. The Game starts at 5:30

The next game for the girls team will be against Cardinal Mooney December 8th. Be there no later than 4pm. Game starts at 5pm.

The next bus trip will be to Bishop Mclaughlin December 10th. Bus will leave SMA 2pm. Girls game starts at 5pm, boys game starts at 7pm.

The plametto game has been rescheduled to December 12th next Monday. Girls will play at 5:30pm and boys at 7:30pm. We will have a Van going from SMA at 3pm next Monday.

The game on January 6th for the girls against Sarasota Christian has been cancelled. (we are looking to reschedule)

The game for the boys on January 10th for the boys against Sarasota Christian has been cancelled(we are looking to reschedule)

The Keswick Christian game as been cancelled on January 19th for the boys

For the girls, The games on the 20th and 30th of December are still on for now. We will try to reschedule the game on December 30th because Coach Austin doesnt think we will have enough players because a number of girls will be out of town. We will let you know next week about the adjustment in the schedule.

      Fundraising

  • We really need parents to step up and help out with our fundraising. We are selling hot chocolate and coffee every morning now as part of our fundraising campaign for (transportation, referee fees, practice field, equipment, uniforms, etc.)
  • Please forward this email to parents who are not on my list of people getting this email
  • If you want our team to be successful this year and the years to come, we need to get more people involved in regard to fundraising. We need for parents to really step up and own it. I know it can be difficult to find the time, but keep in mind you are investing for a worthy cause and helping the school along the way.

Finally,

  • I apologize for some of the scheduling changes we have had to make this season on short notice. A few schools have either cancelled games because they haven't had enough players or needed to reschedule. We thank you for being patient with us as we try to work out our schedule in this first year. Usually scheduling is done in the Spring time, but because I didnt take over as coach until August we have had to patchwork the schedule and fit in as many teams as possible. Having said that, this soccer season has gone very well so far and my plan is to try to inform everyone in plenty of time if we do need to make adjustments to the schedule in the weeks to come.
  • Lastly, but certainly not least: I am really proud of the way everyone has stepped up and devoted their time on the part of the coaching staff. Major Austin and Captain Horan have dedicated themselves to coaching the girls soccer team. I am really thankfull for them because without them, there is no way we could have done this job as effectively. Ulf Sandstrom has really gone the extra mile in scheduling more opponents and helping with all aspects of the soccer program.
  • My interest is being there at every practice, getting better as a soccer team, and bringing this soccer program up to a high level. We are building this soccer program (Rome wasn't build in a day) and neither will this soccer program, but we've come a long way and I intend on working hard and most importantly making sure the soccer players are having a fun time and enjoying playing this great game.

Onward,

Fredrik Sandstrom: Head Coach: SMA Soccer

Responsible Sports
Season Evaluation

Dear SMA Soccer Parent and Supporter,

This season, SMA Eagles has partnered with Responsible Sports™ to conduct parent surveys.
Like our children, the SMA girls and boys soccer teams, want to improve! By conducting season evaluations to receive your feedback, we’ll have valuable input, from you, our parents and supporters, to help us understand what we’re doing well and what needs improvement for next season.

While the survey won’t be sent until closer to the end of the season, I wanted to let you know the subjects the survey covers, so you can take note throughout the season. The Season Evaluation survey, designed by the youth sports experts at Positive Coaching Alliance, includes six key areas:
1) Key Safety Measures
2) Facilities and Equipment
3) Coaching For Mastery
4) Filling Players Emotional Tanks
5) Honoring The Game
6) Organization Communication

The survey is confidential and anonymous. Plus, you’ll also have an opportunity to provide any additional
comments in addition to the topics above.
As I mentioned, the survey will be sent via email toward the end of the season, but only one survey may
be completed per email address. Please be sure I have the all of the email addresses for those in your
household that wish to complete the survey. Then, as the end of the season nears, watch for the survey email from team@responsiblesports.com.

The Liberty Mutual Responsible Sports program is an ongoing effort championing and celebrating
responsibility in youth sports. This community-based program offers meaningful, easy-to-use educational
resources for youth sports parents and coaches, including access to the self-paced, online Responsible
Sport Parenting coursework, filled with learning tools, videos, and youth sports advice. To learn more, visit
ResponsibleSports.com.

Thank you, in advance, for providing your perspective on the season to help us improve!
Fredrik Sandstrom, Head Coach, Girl's and Boy's Soccer, Sarasota Military Academy
