SMA’s School Advisory Council (SAC) will have three parent vacancies at the end of this year. The purpose of the SAC is to enhance school site decision making, to serve in an advisory capacity to the principal regarding school improvement, to assist in the preparation and evaluation of the school improvement plan and to provide input on the use of school improvement funds. Members must commit to attending meetings the third Wednesday of the month from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at the school. If you have a student who will attend SMA in the 2007-2008 school year and would like to serve on this council please contact Ken Cowles at: ken@kencowles.com. School Advisory Council (SAC) The School Advisory Council is a Florida Department of Education mandated Council that each Public School must have in order to receive State funding. The main focus of SAC is to produce the Strategic Plan for Excellence. It is the plan that the school uses to set goals and improve the school. Of course, its main focus is the academic achievement of students, but it also addresses campus dynamics and community involvement. SAC is comprised of the Headmaster, Teachers, JROTC Instructors, Classified employees, Students, Parents and Community/Business Partners. The teachers, instructors, employees, students and parents are elected by their peers. The Community/Business Partners are nominated by the Headmaster. The 2005-2006 SAC at Sarasota Military Academy is as follows: Ken Cowles, Chair SAC meets the third Wednesday of each month in Col. Corks office, and the calendar for the 2005-2006 year will be as follows:
