Plymouth Plantation Project: Due 8/30/06

Objective: Students will develop, create and design a society that will be beneficial and productive to the new world. Literary Term: Primary Sources

 

You and your peers will be complete this in-class project. Each member will have a vital role and must complete his/her task for the benefit of the other students. Students will assign themselves to the following roles in the community and then present to their peers and teacher.

 

1)      Government:                                                                                                                  Why did your people come to America? Was it persecution of religion or governmental beliefs, adventure or something else, explain. Then, what will the new Government consist? Who will be in this Government? What will be the roles and titles of the people in the government? List 5 mandatory laws that all citizens must follow. What will be the consequences if laws are broken? Describe the relationship with those already in America.

2)      Fashion:                                                                                                                                    What is the fashion of that era in this society? What hairstyles will be allowed? Create and design the fashions for this society. Please explain the clothing/hair styles that are not allowed. Then, draw pictures (man, woman, child, etc) to depict these fashions. You must follow the original attire of the Puritans, but may change it without making it too outlandish. Remember more than ½ of the Pilgrim population died during the winter.

3)      Agriculture:                                                                                                                             Every society has food that represents them. Decide what food will be found in the community. What type of livestock, farming, and/or food production will be allowed in the community? Describe how they will preserve their food during the winter months. Explain where the community will purchase/barter this food, which may including Native Americans.

4)      Entertainment:                                                                                                                          What will amuse your society? What types of hobbies and sports will be present? Create a drawing of one sport/ hobby, with rules or steps to completing on or the other.

5)      Town:                                                                                                                                     Design the town. Please include a school, houses, business’ that will be  in the community. Create a drawing of the town to include the above items. List what resources will be used to build.
