“The Joseph S. Rumbaugh Historical
Oration Contest”
The contest is open to all high school students (Grades 9 - 12 within the jurisdiction of the sponsoring state society or district. The subject of the contest must deal with an event, personality, or document pertaining to the Revolutionary War and demonstrate a relationship to America today. The oration must be original and essentially the same as the written manuscript submitted for the contest. The duration of the oration should be not less than five minutes or more than six minutes. Notes and props (including military uniforms) may not be used in the presentation.
The Sarasota/Manatee competition will be Friday, Nov. 14th at Sarasota Hotel and Marina, 7150 N. Tamiami Trl., Sarasota , FL 34243. The winner will compete in the FLSSAR State Finals in January in Orlando. Local cash prizes are: 1st. - $250.; 2nd. - $150; and 3rd. - $100. Winners of the national competition will receive between $1,000 and $3,000 in scholarship monies.
