1SG Lisa-Marie Thomas is an instructor in the JROTC Department at Sarasota Military Academy, presently teaching freshmen cadets.  Prior to her arrival at SMA in February 2007, 1SG Thomas served as a Department of the Air Force Civilian at MacDill Air Force Base, where she worked as the base’s Court Reporter and Real Estate Claims Adjudicator.  Previous to this, 1SG Thomas served 20 years in the United States Army, from which she retired in March of 2004.

1SG Thomas’ Army career began in the Military Police Corps, where she worked as a patrolman.  Upon reassignment and promotion, she worked as a patrol supervisor/squad leader in an MP line unit.  She retrained into the Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) Corps and worked as a paralegal and court reporter.  After her deployment to Desert Shield/Desert Storm, she was selected to attend the U.S. Army Drill Sergeant School and served as a drill sergeant at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, for 2 years.  She then returned to court reporting and was later selected to join the staff of the Naval Justice School, Newport, Rhode Island, where she served as a paralegal instructor for the Navy Legalman Course and the Lead Instructor for the Army, Navy, and Coast Guard Court Reporting Courses.  After her promotion to Master Sergeant, she served as the Chief Paralegal NCO, 2nd Infantry Division, South Korea, and subsequently, at U.S. Special Operations Command.  She was selected to the First Sergeant Program and served as a First Sergeant in an initial entry training unit at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
