MAJOR OPPORTUNITY INFORMATION
Except for our current juniors (seniors in 2009-10), by state law, all students must pick a major opportunity. The major opportunity is based upon the student interests and strengths. If a student earns four credits more than graduation requirements in a major area of interest, that student will receive a designation on his/her diploma stating that he/she completed a major opportunity.
Diploma designations will be awarded starting with the 2011 graduates and can be in the awarded in the following areas:
· Major opportunity-completion of four credits in the same major
· Completion of four credits in Advanced Placement courses with a passing score of at least 3 on the final exams
· Completion of four credits in dual enrollment classes
Major Opportunity choices can be changed each year in high school. If a student changes his/her major opportunity choice each year in order to explore career opportunities, he/she may not be able to complete the additional credits necessary to earn a diploma designation for completion of a major opportunity. NOTE: Changing major opportunity choices will not affect graduation status in any way.
