New Procedure for
Community Service Hours
In addition to JROTC and guidance office
approval, we will be using the Friendship Volunteer Center to help process and
approve hours for community service. Following are the steps that must be
followed to get high school credit for community service (1/2 credit for 75
approved hours, 1 full credit for 150 approved hours):
- Come to the Guidance Office to pick up the appropriate
forms.
- Completely fill out the Teen Sarasota Application
Form, including Graduation Date, whether you will be available to volunteer
over the summer, and contact information for both you and your parents.
- Indicate which interests or skills you wish to use in
volunteering. We use this information to match you with an agency best
suited to your abilities and interests.
- Complete the Social Problem Identification pages. If
you need more ideas about what you can do for community service, come to the
guidance office. We have a book of hundreds of opportunities that you can
look at. The book includes descriptions of what you will be doing, where it
will be, the time required, and the contact person for the activity.
- Once you have completed Steps 1-4,
you must obtain approval from your JROTC instructor or someone in the
guidance office in order to receive your Hours Sheet and Evaluation Form.
Pick up your Hours Sheet and Evaluation Form from the guidance
office after you receive approval.
- After receiving approval and your Hours
Sheet and Evaluation Form, you may begin recording your volunteer hours.
- When recording Volunteer Hours, record each occasion
of volunteering, and have your agency supervisor sign off on the hours.
- Once you have completed your hours (75 or 150),
submit your time sheet and the final evaluation form to Mrs.
Downs in the Guidance Office. (Note: If you need community service
hours for promotion, please give your hours to Maj. Smith first to be
recorded and then to Mrs. Downs). A copy of the completed forms will be
given to Mrs. Daysh, who will then enter the credit on your academic
history.
