Welcome to the Sarasota Military Academy’s Music Department! We currently have four performing ensembles that are growing every year.
Chorus – The chorus sings everything from Bach to the Beach Boys. They meet three times a week and prepare for performances in and out of school.
Band – The band performs level 3 to level 5 band literatures and participates in FBA. They perform 2 concerts a year and also play at special events to include the City of Sarasota Veteran’s Day parade. Many times our bugler is called on to play Taps for funerals or military ceremonies.
Jazz Ensemble – Basie, Nestico, Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, and the list goes on and on. The Jazz program allows students to open up and be creative as they hone the art of improvising. From the dance bands of Benny Goodman to Maynard Ferguson, the Jazz Ensemble is fun for all!
SMA Drum Line – Our newest ensemble allows members to play snare, toms, bass drums as well as keyboard, timpani and Latin percussion instruments.
The Music Department also has an active Booster group that helps raise funds for the music department.
