The guitar program at SMA combines practical playing experience with music theory.  The students are from all grade levels and experience.  Because of this there is a great deal of individual and small group instruction.  Students are asked to learn basic chords and strums; music theory and reading as well as a variety of styles of music including classical, folk, blues and rock and roll.  They learn flat picking as well as finger-picking.  There is time for individual study as well.  This can be learning specific songs that the student likes or styles of music that only a few students are interested in..  In the end it is my desire to have well-rounded guitar players who will continue with guitar or another instrument ,in part, due to their positive experience of music during their school years.
Students interested in this class can be beginners who have never picked up a guitar or advanced guitar players.  There will always be something new to learn.
