US Lacrosse MDOC Level 1 lacrosse referee.
Sunday December 17, 2006 Cadet Matthew Cowles completed the requirements and was officially certified as a US Lacrosse MDOC Level 1 Lacrosse referee.
Matthew is committed to the growth of the sport in Sarasota and is now qualified to ref games. This will enable us to deliver officiating as we grow youth lacrosse in the area. Who knows; perhaps he will be back later officiating future SMA games.
To be certified Cadet Cowles completed the training over 2 Sundays. First attending and successfully passing a clinic that incorporated the Officials Training Manual and test. Then completing a practical on-field walk-thru experience at the Tampa Bay Thunder Men’s Lacrosse Game this past Sunday.
The purpose of US Lacrosse officials training is to develop knowledgeable and prepared lacrosse officials at every level of the game. As an official he must undergo continued, standardized training in order to stay abreast of the game, always consider the level of play when officiating, insure the safety of all participants, promote fair play and sportsmanship and if desired, qualify for higher level games and move-up to a higher level of officiating.
Those seeking a similar experience can begin this training on Jan 13th in Tampa. This would be recommended for anyone involved with the game of lacrosse…players, parents, coaches. Those interested can speak to Matthew Cowles or contact Head Official Kevin Noonan at KSNOONAN@Verizon.net
