SMA Lacrosse conducts Youth Lacrosse Clinic

Upon invitation of the Ringling Redskins Football/Lacrosse program the SMA Lacrosse program conducted a youth clinic on Sunday Oct 19th.

Kids and parents of all ages came to check out the “fastest game on two feet”.

Utilizing soft stick lacrosse equipment, program leaders taught basic skills, and introduced the kids to how the game is played before separating the field into two smaller fields and allowing the kids to experience for themselves how the game is played.

The event attracted a crowd estimated to be near 150.  Two veterans of youth lacrosse joined in the fun, both United States Naval Academy grads and former Navy lacrosse players;

George Tracy a 2008 National Lacrosse Hall of Fame Inductee and leader of 3 Navy National Champion teams.

Alex Morris an Annapolis grad and member Navy Lacrosse player has a depth of youth lacrosse knowledge, involvement and experience.

Soft Stick lacrosse equipment coupled with US Lacrosse PE curriculum allow anyone to begin teaching the fundamentals of lacrosse without the risk of injury or additional protective gear.

SMA Lacrosse has initiated the development of a recreational youth lacrosse league through partnership with the Redskins.  Obtaining 80 complete sets of youth gear and making this available to 9, 10, 11 year old players enables children who otherwise would not be able to afford the sport to partake in this youth athletic program.  The goal to have 4 teams able to practice and compete on our own field.

SMA’s vision is to expand this program to include children ages 12-14, with a recreational league of middle school lacrosse teams .

This will set the stage for area children to stay physically fit, exposed to positive adult role models, as well as learn and play the sport without the necessity of extensive travel.
