Coach Carolyn Keber and Assistant Coach Lucy Keber are busily building the SMA Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team. Having completed the inaugural year and setting the stage for continued great success this coming season they are eager to speak to you about joining the squad. Coach Keber had the girls out over summer with a fun and relaxed summer league. They look to continue with a fall ball program so get your name on the info chain by contacting either at CarolynKeber@hotmail.com or L.Keber@comcast.net The opportunities for girls in lacrosse within the state of Florida have just begun. Have you heard the UF Gators have added women’s lacrosse!! http://www.gatorzone.com/lacrosse/ Get to the field, Ken Cowles SMA Lacrosse Inagural Year for Girls Lacrosse is a Hit By Coach Keeber Girls Varsity Lacrosse Imagine having never seen a foreign country – you know nothing of the people, the language, the culture or geography. Your place of work has sent you on a mission to explore expansion opportunities. You’re dropped off in the middle of an unknown city and meet your local guide who will teach you the language and show you the customs of the country. Sounds fun, right? You could explore the local hangouts, meet new people, take your time getting to know the different cultures and dialects. But wait…you’re then told you have to give a presentation to a large group of local businesses and are EXPECTED to speak the language with all its nuances and be charming enough to sell them on your great company…in TWO WEEKS! This is what your girls have done and experienced in their inaugural season of SMA Eagles lacrosse! The girls’ first game of the season, having never even SEEN the game of girls' lacrosse played, was against the previous year's reigning champions – intimidating, right? Not for our team. They walked on the field with their heads held high. What was a defeat on the scoreboard was far from any defeat for our team. They came off the field and only wanted to learn and work harder…they caught the lacrosse bug. They worked harder and even initiated their own practices. They realized the importance of training…they got serious. We came through the season with two wins – one of which was an exciting sudden death victory. The 2007 girls lacrosse team has accomplished an amazing feat and each individual girl is now a proud member of the SMA GIRLS LACROSSE TEAM. We had an incredible ride this season. They came in not knowing how to hold the stick, and now are telling me that I missed a shooting space call. Things are only looking up for next year. Your girls are now a team and with that comes responsibility. They’re ready…and hope to have the continued support of their families, friends, and new teammates for the 2008 season. We’ll miss our seniors, but we will be jazzed to go next year. I’ll be giving the girls information on lacrosse camps for the summer and an off-season training schedule. No more sore ankles, shin splints, strained muscles and “too tired to run” in 2008! Congrats on a great inaugural season. Coach K and Coach Mom
