Cadet Olympiad and Spirit Week Update

Spirit week kicked off the first annual “Cadet Olympiad” with a pep rally held on the SMA field on Monday afternoon.  The cadets poured on to the field where the drum line, band and bag pipers performed.  A cheerleading contest between the faculty and senior boys was a huge hit, with the senior boys ultimately taking first place trophies.  Our own Varsity Eagles Lacrosse Cheerleaders took the stage and danced, ending with a pyramid stunt.  The pep rally closed with a fireworks display and Col. Kennedy declaring “Let the games begin!” And so the Cadet Olympiad was under way….

Tuesday afternoon brought the freshmen vs. sophomores games in both lacrosse and football, with the sophomores sweeping both events.  Wednesday afternoon, despite the rain, the juniors and seniors played with the seniors dominating both events to bring them to the final game.  The rain came again and delayed the final showdown between the sophomores and seniors in the finals, but the game was ultimately played on Wednesday of the following week with a coin toss by Col. Kennedy that morning at formation for the deciding game.  Football it was….and the seniors showed everyone that they had what it takes to be the school champs for the fist Olympiad in SMA history!  They were honored at formation with the huge new trophy that will bear their class name engraved for 2007.  This new trophy will sit in the front hall of SMA in it’s own showcase, and will be passed to each winning class every Fall for this new school tradition.  Amy Schroeder and Matt Cowles were honored with MVP trophies and all the senior players got individual trophies for their win.  Congratulations seniors, you were awesome!

The week also ended with the faculty spirit door contest winners   announced!  Winners were:

Capt. Kopacz and Capt. Wasserman tied for 1st place

Capt. Mannion received 2nd place

Col. Cork’s office, done by Monica, received 3rd as well as the “Most Creative” award for their “Referral” decorations!

Honorable Mention went to the Clinic

Most Spirited: Trophies went to Molly Ellis and Charlotte Vanvuren, Captains of the Varsity Cheerleading, who worked so hard this past week and were there to play and cheer all the classes on each day…

Thank you to all who participated in this great new event here at SMA….Special thanks goes to all of our volunteer coaches who came out every day and coached all the class teams, to Ken Cowles who painted our field in blue and gold and coached all of the lacrosse games. Thanks also to the drum line, the band, our bag pipers and all of the faculty who  participated in the week’s events.  You all made this first Cadet Olympiad a great success!!!  Thank you also goes to our Varsity Cheerleaders who brought you all the events of the week and worked hard to make this  happen for their classmates.  Final thanks go to all of our students who came out and played, and also to those who came out to cheer on your fellow cadets.  This week was a lot of fun and brought a new found spirit to our school.  I hope you all enjoyed the week and I will see you back again in Fall 2008 for our next Olympiad!

Thank you Col. Kennedy and Col. Cork!  We really liked your cheerleading uniforms!!!!!!

Cheers!  Coach Maria
